Mineral Mining Services (MMS)
With a lean team and growing ambition, MMS uses Krux to gain real-time drilling insight, eliminate manual reporting, and deliver professional analytics that scale with the business.

From Day One: How MMS Digitised Drilling and Built for Growth
About Mineral Mining Services (MMS)
Mineral Mining Services (MMS) is an Australian mining company with a growing drilling division focused on supporting junior explorers, primarily in the Goldfields region. While drilling currently represents a small part of the overall MMS business, it plays a strategic role in de-risking projects and unlocking downstream mining opportunities.
As MMS looks to scale its drilling capability over time, visibility, efficiency, and professional reporting have become increasingly important.

The challenge
When MMS established its drilling division, the team was starting from scratch in terms of systems and processes. Traditional approaches—paper plods, spreadsheets, and manual reporting—were time-consuming and unsuitable for a lean team managing multiple stakeholders.
Jason Summerfield, Drilling Supervisor, had seen firsthand how disconnected systems created friction in previous roles;
“We needed to streamline our processes for managers and drillers with a tool that required little training, even for those who weren’t tech experts.”
For MMS, the key challenges were:
· Minimising manual administration and paperwork
· Gaining real-time visibility into drilling progress and performance
· Producing clear, professional reports for internal leadership and external partners
· Avoiding costly, complex systems that weren’t fit for a small but growing operation
The solution
MMS adopted Krux from day one of its drilling operations, selecting it over alternatives due to ease of use, cost, and strong industry alignment.
“We adopted Krux straight up… We did a cost and feature comparison, and Krux was better.”
Implementation was handled face-to-face, with a focus on core functionality first and ongoing support as needed.
“The face-to-face implementation was great. They showed me the basics without overloading me, and whenever I had questions, they’d come back within half an hour.”
Krux now underpins MMS’s drilling workflow, providing:
· Digital daily drilling logs completed directly on mobile devices
· Real-time visibility into rig activity, progress, and downtime
· Automated analytics and reporting for weekly and monthly reviews
· Integrated hole tracking through IMDEX tools (OMNI, Hub-IQ)

Results
Significant time savings
Reporting that previously required manual calculations and back-and-forth emails can now be generated instantly.
Jason estimates Krux saves 30–60 minutes per day, plus additional time at month-end:
“I would say with reporting I save about half an hour to an hour every day, and then even more time at the end of the month just trying to add it all up. And then there would have been the emails back and forth with the client. Now I'll fire it straight to the accountant teams and they take it from there.”
Lauren O’Loughlin, Exploration Superintendent adds;
“Between Jason and I, we don't have those little nitty gritty discussions about how much standby is being charged for, or how long they stayed on a particular hole or anything like that because it's all there.
Improved visibility and decision-making
Krux gives MMS real-time insight into drilling activity, enabling faster and more proactive management:
“Managing the rig, seeing what the drill rig is doing — that’s invaluable.” — Jason
“I don’t have to call the Geo’s anymore to see what hole they’re on. I can see exactly where they are, if they’re on budget, and how the drilling is tracking.” — Lauren
Standbys, delays, and performance trends are clearly captured, reducing internal friction and guesswork.
“And because we've got it linked through to IMDEX as well, I can also see how the Geo’s are going with approving the downhole surveys. I can check is the hole is tracking to where we need it to be, and make a decision on whether we need to change anything to hit the target,” adds Lauren.
Simple reporting and credibility
For Jason, the impact was immediate;
“The best thing about it? The analytics and visual reports have lifted the perception of the drilling division internally. The head boss just looks at it and goes, ‘Where did this come from? This is really good.’”
The transparency makes drilling performance easy to understand—even for stakeholders without a drilling background.
Better field adoption
Drillers enter data directly into their phones, eliminating soggy notebooks and duplicate reporting:
“There’s no notepad to write things down on anymore. They enter it straight into their phone and can be approved that afternoon — it’s really efficient.” says Lauren.

Looking ahead
MMS plans to continue expanding its drilling capability, with potential for additional rigs as the business grows. Krux is expected to scale alongside this expansion, supporting more projects, more stakeholders, and more complex workflows.
One upcoming initiative is using Krux to share live drilling progress with external partners as part of a drill-for-equity arrangement;
“It’s really exciting to be able to share that day-to-day progress data with an external company,” says Lauren.
With integrations across Krux, IMDEX, and geological platforms, MMS sees digital drilling workflows as central to productivity, transparency, and safety—now and into the future.
“We need to get away from paper as much as we can. Digital record keeping just makes life easier.” — Jason
